After the original introduction back in the 1950s, the Monte Pokhara - inspired by mountaineering shoes of the age - sees a refresh in design and steps back onto the streets as the Monte Z. When the shoe was first releases over 50 years ago, the unique design of the heel back counter was made to protect the Achilles tendon. Now, a modern update to the midsole gives the sneaker a rugged trail hiking feel while the upper structure, which is inspired by the kimono and the outer punching can be laced in a variety of ways.
The Monte Z keeps its quirky lacing construction but retains its slip on feature. Its unique Japanese design language with a contemporary lightweight midsole is recognisable as an Onitsuka heritage shoe with an up-to-date twist.
